WA Surf is Perth's original and premier Kitesurfing school offering unparalleld service in what is easily Perth's best and only shallow water location. ...endeavour to give you 1 on 1 lessons. This may not always be possible in order to take advantage of the best wind of the day, but we always match or better the IKO guidelines. Last season, 95% of our lessons were 1 on 1
...give you the choice from any of the kites (except F-One), boards and harnesses we sell to make up your great/free lessons package and we will advise you on the right kite for you based upon where you want to go. The type of kite gear a person needs depends massively on the time and commitment you can put into the sport
...give you the option of starting your lessons with us first and then purchasing your gear second and getting a full refund of the lesson cost provided you buy or put a deposit down for your gear before you start your third lesson. This way, we can show you anything you may need to know about your specific gear during the third lesson
...give lessons usually on our equipment so that you can get your lessons completed with the right-sized kite for the conditions and your skill level. Where possible, we will try and use your kite for the third lesson as this works out nicely
...use big boards! Using a big board for the first 5 times really speeds up your learning curve, but you need to buy a board that will be right for the long term. Even after your free lessons, you can come into the shop and borrow for free a large board whilst you get your skills up. This is an invaluable learning tool!

It's a weather-dependent sport and matching up your freetime, with the right conditions and the availability of instructors is always going to be a task. We have taught many customers who have happily paid for lessons with us even when they have purchased a free lesson deal from others. It's important to get you out kiting as much as possible when you have the time, not wait for a school to slot you in. Then it is equally as important for you to keep kiting and when you have an easy and uncrowded spot as Safety Bay then well...it doesn't get any better than this!

The Equipment/Free Lesson Packages
- See our store for equipment details, but please note we can package up any (except F-One) of our kites, boards and harnesses to get you on the right gear for your aspirations and budget. Packages shown are guides to help you out, but you will be in a much better position to appreciate the equipment after your first 2 lessons and we can walk through all of your options at this stage.

Does WA Surf Use Waterproof Helmet Communication Systems?
- Because our teaching location is so perfect, there is no need for the use of communication helmets. These helmets actually only allow 1-way communication, so the student can't ask questions and there is less Instructor-Student interaction. It is a lot better if the instructor is right next to you holding onto your harness handle as you first fly a kite. We are also able to demonstrate, not simply explain to you what to do.

Is WA Surf Open All Year?
- Yes, this is because the geography of the bay allows good conditions in nearly all wind directions. Wetsuit hire is available as well as the option to purchase brand new O'Neill steamers from just $179. Please note although lessons are available all year round, the shopfront may not be, so you do need to phone to book your lesson.

After The Lessons?
- As we have the only shop and school right on the water in Perth, you can drop in and get advice any time you like! Or more commonly, drop in for a chat and a sundowner at the end of a great session.

Accreditation?
- WA Surf is one of only three IKO-accredited Kiteboarding Centres in Perth as well as being the only one that is Yachting Australia and Academy of Surfing Instructors certified. For your additional peace of mind, we are one of the very few schools in Australia who don't use an overseas insurer, having an APRA (Australian Prudential Regulation Authority) local insurer. Always ask your kite instructor if they have public liability insurance. WA Surf is the ONLY licensed school in Safety Bay, don't get confused with Shoalwater nearby). Make sure you ask your instructor for an IKO card at the end of your lesson.

The Equipment
- We have a huge size range (from 1.8m2 to 15m2) of the latest kites for our lessons to get you out in all conditions. All equipment (exluding wetsuits which can be hired for just $10 per session) is provided for each lesson. Even if you are buying your own gear and taking advantage of our free lessons, we do the first 3 lessons with our equipment so as to get you out there on the right sized gear. The best format for learning is to use a kite around half the size a kiter would normally use for the first lessons, then 2/3rds the size for the second (for safety reasons) then progress to a full-size kite. Learners do not need to buy an undersized kite with this scenario.

Finance Packages
- If you have the bug but not the cash, then we can offer you the following deal: provided you have paid for your lessons, then pay a $500 deposit for your gear, you can use your gear out of our store, meaning it is kept at our premises for your day use until fully paid for.

Gear Storage
- Many of our customers are tourists who flock to Safety Bay for its world-class conditions. Many are foreign students and backpackers who are in Perth for a while. If you have trouble storing your gear and you purchased it from us, then we can offer you storage at just $20 per week!

Demo Gear
- If you are serious about buying gear, then come down and try out our kites and boards. No charge applies if you keep your demo time down to 1 hour per kite.

Training Kite Hire
Just $15 per hour! Get a feel for Kitesurfing or brush up on your skills. You can also watch the latest IKO instructional videos at our new store in Safety Bay. No experience required, but please note this is not a lesson.
WA Surf Taster Session $50 for 45 mins
Please note this is not a pre-requisite for starting Lesson 1, but is a great session for those that want to find out all about the sport and just how those big kites work. You will be flying a small training kite and getting the lowdown on all aspects of the sport, plus be shown how to rig a full-sized kite and all the aspects involved.
Introduction to Kiting $220 for 2 hours
The most important kite lesson you will ever do. This is the safety and technical side of kite flying. Using IKO guidelines, we teach you correct rigging up, wind windows, correct assessment of conditions, kite flying, release systems, launching and landing, emergency pack downs and self-rescue. This lesson is done half on land, then half in the water but is 100% hands-on. In the last 40 minutes, you will be body dragging through the water, learning all about the power of the kite, and also how to water relaunch.
Lesson 2, Body Dragging $220 for 2 hours
In this lesson, we carry on where we left off in the first lesson. We continue body dragging and move on to one-handed kite flying. We then do upwind body dragging, which you have to learn so you can retrieve the board when you lose it in deep water spots. Once we have acquired these skills we are ready to do our first water start on the board!
Lesson 3, Board Skills $220 for 2 hours
We will quickly revisit the water start and get you up on your feet! Once we have done this, you will learn how to control your edge, and your speed, and we will teach you how to kite on all angles of the wind. Upwind riding theory and practice will be taught, and we may even get you doing your first jump! You are now a completely independent rider: able to come down to the beach, assess the condition, rig up, launch your kite, and ride back and forth.
Zero to Hero Lessons 1 to 3 Discounted Package $500
Our most popular course and exactly what you need to do to learn Kitesurfing. Fully refundable if you purchase your equipment from WA Surf. Slot the lessons in at your leisure. Two can be done in one day if you have the stamina!

Kite Board Only hire is available at $30/hr.
